The CNFC-HL01 Hualong One fresh fuel transport container prototype independently developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has completed a series of verification tests such as mechanics and heat resistance, China Nuclear Engineering reported. The container was developed for the transportation of various fresh fuel components for large-scale commercial NPPs. The container was developed by the CNNC radioactive material storage and transportation container technical team. Xi'an Nuclear Equipment Co Ltd implemented prototype manufacturing.

In this series of verification tests, the transport container loaded with a special fuel assembly successively passed the 9 metre drop and 1 metre penetration tests carried out by the China Academy of Engineering Physics, as well as the pool temperature far higher than standard requirements. The fire-type heat resistance test achieved the expected goal, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent verification of the establishment of the container analysis model, the rationality of parameter selection, and the safety of structural design.

The CNFC-HL01 container will end the need for expensive international procurement of foreign containers, high technology transfer costs, and overseas intellectual property difficulties, and will pave the way for the overall export of nuclear power technology overseas.
